Insira Motion
Motor insurance billed per kilometre and per minute — priced from how the car is actually driven rather than from flat assumptions.
Insira Motion is a research project with a working prototype, not a product available on the market. What is shown here is the current state of development.
A recorded drive
Playback of a drive from the recorder prototype. Events light up as they occur; the premium accrues per kilometre and per minute.

Driving style, not risk. What is measured is how the car is driven — not who is driving.
01
Priced per kilometre and per minute
The premium comes from actual use rather than an annual flat rate. Time and distance are priced separately because they carry different portions of the risk — city traffic costs time, open road costs kilometres.
02
The data
Acceleration, braking and cornering behaviour from the phone's own sensors. Driving-style features are derived from that raw signal and feed into pricing. The label is deliberately driving style and not risk: what is measured is how the car is driven, not who is driving.
03
Product modelling
A tariff alone is not an insurance product. Policy issuance, contract logic and claims projection are modelled too — the parts where telematics efforts usually fail, because they stop at the data model.
04
Architecture
A scalable data architecture with stream processing and machine learning: sensor data is processed continuously, not batched at month end.
05
Research foundation
Insira Motion is being developed alongside an ongoing doctoral project on pay-per-use pricing and telematics-based risk models. The models are tested empirically before they enter the prototype.
